To the Principal of Horizon College,
We, the undersigned students of Horizon College, respectfully submit this petition to you.
We have noticed that:
Currently, the school rules only allow girls to have cornrows to the back and boys to shave their heads completely.
We believe that:
1. Our natural hair (afro, kinky hair) is part of our identity and our African culture.
2. We can be clean, neat and disciplined WITH our natural hair.
3. Forcing everyone to have the same hairstyle does not value our creativity.
That is why we are asking for:
1. For girls: Permission to come with neat hairstyles based on natural hair (neat afro puff, twists, Bantu knots, etc.) and not only cornrows to the back.
2. For boys: Permission to keep their hair cut low but not completely shaved, to value a clean and neat afro cut.
We promise that all hairstyles will always remain CLEAN, NEAT and DECENT for school.
Hoping for a positive response, please accept, Mr. Principal, the expression of our deep respect.
